Frequently Asked Questions
For Summer School | July 4 - 28, 2017
- How many courses can I take in Summer School?
Students may register for one course only, with the exception of CALM Self-Directed Learning or Summer Off-Campus (Work Experience 15-25-35 and RAP).
- Can I start my course late or finish early?
NO. Each day of summer instruction is the equivalent of one week of a semestered high school program. Due to the already abbreviated nature of the term, no provision will be made for missed classes, or for the late start or early release of students. You are expected to attend every class as scheduled and to be present to write the final examination. Final examinations cannot be rescheduled.
- Can I access Special Accommodations for my Summer School course?
Yes, some accommodations for special needs students will be available. For more details, see Testing & Accommodation for Summer School. Please note that summer school programming is extremely condensed. This intensive setting requires that students be able to independently manage their own course loads.
- Can I access Special Accommodations for the Provincial Diploma Exams?
If you received Special Accommodations for Diploma Examinations during the regular school year you will likely qualify to receive them for Summer School as well. You must apply through Student Services prior to the July 7, 2017 deadline. Documentation must be provided at time of registration (IPP, psychologist report or doctor's note).
- Am I automatically registered to write my Diploma Exam?
If you are writing a course diploma exam for the first time, a seat and an exam will be ready for you on exam day. If you are rewriting the exam within two years, you must register with Alberta Education and pay for the exam rewrite by the deadline to obtain a seat. Visit Diploma Exams for details.
- When are Diploma Exams held?
Diploma Exams | August 1 - 10, 2017

Please check with your teacher regarding Diploma Exam location
- When will my marks be available?
Non-diploma marks will be mailed to your home from Chinook Learning Services.
Alberta Education no longer mails Diploma Exam results by Canada Post mail. Diploma marks will be available online to students on August 18, 2017 from Alberta Education. To request your Detailed Academic Report (DAR), go to myPass.alberta.ca and set-up your account to review diploma marks online. You will need to know your Alberta Student Number (ASN) to sign in. Your ASN can be found on any Alberta report card or by going to Alberta Student Number (external link to Alberta Education).
- Please set-up your account as soon as possible as you will not be able to access diploma marks until your account is active. Activation could take up to 2 weeks.
Note: Most post-secondary institutions have an August 1 deadline for mark submission and may not accept Summer School course marks. Contact the post-secondary institution for more details.
